Match your pumpkin to your own individual style!

Let’s face it, teens aren’t so easy to please at times. Unless your teen is inherently creative, they may find craft time to be a bit boring. However, if we aim to focus crafts around their special interests and holidays, we’re more likely to get a positive response. Today we’ll hit all the marks with these Wood Beaded Pumpkins!

One of the things we can focus on is creating crafts for their own personal space. This is the age where room decor really becomes a statement of who they are and the things they enjoy.

Today’s craft will focus on the season and can be adapted to suit any teen’s style.

Wood beaded pumpkins are made by stringing natural wood beads onto floral wire and shaping them into a plump, rustic pumpkin. It’s a perfect blend of minimalism and seasonal flair, ideal for decorating desks, shelves, or even gifting.

Why Teens Love It:

  • Hands-on and calming. This craft is great for decompressing. Stringing beads forces us to slow down and concentrate at an easy pace. It’s also great for fidgety fingers or sensory seekers.
  • Customizable with paint, greenery, or twine. Your teen can choose to keep their pumpkins natural, or they can paint them black, orange, or just about any color they want! Throw in some glitter, create a tie-die version by mixing colored paints, or even drape the pumpkin in fun spider webs for an extra cool Halloween effect.
  • Trendy enough to match modern room aesthetics. Your teen can and most certainly will make this pumpkin to match their style, just like they do with their bedroom decor.
  • Quick to make with just a few supplies. Hello, instant gratification!

Let’s Get Crafting!

Supplies:

  • Wood beads (medium size, unfinished or pre-painted)
  • Floral wire (cut into 3–6 strands, ~12″ each)
  • Wire cutters
  • Jute twine or ribbon (for wrapping the stem)
  • Faux greenery or leaves (optional for embellishment)
  • Hot glue gun (optional for securing decor)
  • Paint, Glitter, etc. (optional for extra style)

Directions:

1. Prep Your Wire

  • Cut 3–6 equal lengths of floral wire (about 12 inches each).
  • Twist the ends together at one side to anchor them.

2. Add the Beads

  • Slide one bead over all wires to lock the base.
  • Then, thread beads onto each individual wire strand.
  • Aim for 8–12 beads per strand depending on size.

3. Shape the Pumpkin

  • Gather the wire ends together and twist tightly to form the stem.
  • Gently push beads down and fan out the strands to create a round pumpkin shape.

4. Wrap the Stem

  • Use jute twine or ribbon to wrap the twisted wire stem.
  • Tie off with a knot or secure with hot glue.

5. Add Greenery or Decorate (Optional)

  • Tuck faux leaves or greenery around the stem.
  • Use hot glue if needed to hold them in place.
  • Use paint or glitter to personalize your pumpkins.
