Why We Chose To Homeschool

We all have an origin story. We have reasons for choosing to homeschool. For us, it began before my son reached kindergarten.

I was 7 months pregnant with my second. At my son’s wellness checkup, the nurse looked over at my toe-walking child and said “I think we have a touch of autism there.”

Consider my world shook. Afterwards, we were left alone with no direction on what to do next. My investigative skills were under full swing.

I found out where to go for testing and how to set up weekly therapies. We saw some improvement but I knew there was more to be done.

Once my son reached VPK, we followed the course and signed him up within the public school system.

Folks, We’ve Reached Our Turning Point

My son was MISERABLE in that classroom. It wasn’t the teachers fault (I adored his teachers), but my son got lost in the sea of students.

He wasn’t given the intensive, one-on-one instruction that he needed. Instead of growing, he became a shell of his former self.

After one semester, I decided not to bring him back. Instead, I continued to stay home and I did the work myself.

At that point, I had never known anyone personally who homeschooled. The first question I asked myself was “where do I start?” Are you also New to Homeschooling? Your First Steps Explained.
